DR Flavors & Ingredients hosts the SDG Movement of Santa Catarina and discusses sustainable development
By hosting the Regional ESG Seminar, DR Flavors & Ingredients reinforces its commitment to sustainable development DR Aromas & Ingredients hosted the Regional ESG Seminar, organized by the Joinville SDG Committee, and presented the sustainability practices implemented by the company. DR Flavors & Ingredients hosted the Regional ESG Seminar on the morning of Wednesday, September 30. The event was organized by the Joinville SDG Committee, part of the National SDG Movement of Santa Catarina, at the company’s headquarters in Jaraguá do Sul. Around 80 people attended, including representatives of organizations, companies and others interested in advancing the ESG agenda, as well as invited experts who shared experiences, best practices and lessons learned related to the topic. Opening the program, DR Flavors & Ingredients’ Supply Chain Director, Julio Van Vossen, welcomed the audience and emphasized the company’s longstanding commitment. “A long-standing company like DR would not be here if sustainability were not one of the pillars of its business,” he said. He was followed by Luciana Homrich, coordinator of the National SDG Movement of Santa Catarina. She gave a brief presentation of the organization, demonstrating, as she put it, how “sustainability gains strength when it stops being an intention.” Founded in 2009, the SDG Movement of Santa Catarina now has more than 2,200 signatories. They include individuals and organizations committed to mobilizing Santa Catarina society to build a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable future. DR Flavors & Ingredients became a signatory of the SDG Movement in 2024 and the UN Global Compact in 2025, as highlighted by DR Sustainability Specialist Maria Eduarda Grubba. She outlined the evolution of the ESG agenda and cited initiatives such as the circular economy to illustrate how environmental, social and governance actions are integrated into the company’s business strategy. “Being sustainable is part of our essence, and it is more than a slogan for us. DR’s history and sustainability are intertwined,” she concluded. Following the presentation by the host company, the invited panelists shared their experiences. Representing Samae of Jaraguá do Sul, Quality and Environment Coordinator Déborah Melo Aflen highlighted that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “are not a parallel agenda, but the compass that guides the organization’s actions.” She cited Recicla Jaraguá, a program that promotes selective waste collection; Proeva, an environmental education program; and Hidrata Jaraguá, an initiative that installed 20 water stations offering drinking water — at room temperature, chilled and hot, as well as water for animals — at strategic locations throughout the city as practical examples of this approach. Flávia Vanelli, founder of Estúdio RatoRói, spoke next. She explained how the product design startup transforms waste, such as plastic, into new solutions for the architectural market. Clean energy solutions, greenhouse gas emissions reduction and a social responsibility project carried out in Pará in partnership with Natura were the cases presented by Rafael Mahfud, WEG’s representative at the seminar. Closing the event, Talita Piccoli Sevegnani, Director of Health Surveillance at the Jaraguá do Sul City Government, shared the public sector’s experience with the SDGs. As examples, she cited the Municipal Health Plan and IntegraVISA, an initiative of Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) that supported municipalities in implementing Quality Management Systems within state and municipal health surveillance agencies. During the event, the SDG Movement of Santa Catarina also collected around 50 kilograms of nonperishable food, which will be donated to the Sesc Mesa Brasil Program, operated by the Social Service of Commerce (SESC). For DR Flavors & Ingredients, hosting the Regional ESG Seminar reinforced that advancing the sustainability agenda also involves sharing experiences and developing solutions together. By bringing together companies, public authorities and experts, the event expanded the dialogue on challenges and opportunities for the region and strengthened the company’s connection with the SDGs and with a development agenda that integrates environmental, social and governance aspects into its business strategy.
